General Disc Golf Play

Disc golf is played exactly in the same way as ball golf, however instead of hitting a little ball into a hole, flying discs are used to approach the target, commonly known as a basket. One point  or stroke is counted each time the disc is thrown and whenever a penalty is incurred. After the initial throw or tee-off, players must continue from where their previous throw has landed.

The object is to complete each individual hole and the entire course in the least number of throws possible, thereby accumulating the lowest score. On a course where the par is 54 (typically made up of 18 holes each of par 3) a score of 49 is better than a score of 51.

Tee Throws

The Tee-off is the first throw of each hole, and all players begin throwing from exactly the same area. Tee throws must be completed within or up to three metres behind the designated tee area. Do not throw until the players in front of you are out of range.

Lie

The spot where the player's previous throw has landed, marked with a mini disc or by turning over the thrown disc, directly towards the hole or dog leg.

Throwing Order

After teeing off, the player whose disc is farthest from the hole always throws first. The player with the least amount of throws on the previous hole is the first to tee off on the next hole. In the case that everyone throws the same amount of throws, then the order for tee-off remains the same as on the previous hole.

Fairway Throws

Fairway throws must be made with the foot closest to the hole on or up to 30cm behind the lie. The other foot may be no closer to the hole than the lie. When a player is still more than 10 metres from the basket, a run-up and normal follow-through once the player has released the disc is allowed. When a player is within 10 metres of the basket, their throw must be completed with their entire body behind the lie, and the player is not allowed to step over it or lose balance and fall over it. This constitutes a falling putt, and the throw or putt must be retaken.

Dog Leg

A dog leg is one or more designated trees or poles in the fairway that must be passed as indicated by arrows. Until the dog leg is passed the closest foot to the dog leg must be on the lie when the disc is released.

Completion Of Hole

A disc that comes to rest in the Disc Pole Hole® basket or chains constitutes successful completion of that hole. ON the basket-top is NOT in.

World's best basket!

Un-Playable Lie

Any disc that comes to rest above the ground is considered an un-playable lie. The disc must be thrown from the lie on the ground, directly underneath the un-playable lie. Relocated to avoid damage to the vegetation.

Out Of Bounds

If O. B. is visible between the disc and O. B. line? A throw that lands out of bounds, must be played from a point up to 1 metre in bounds from where the disc went out of bounds. Permanent water hazards and public roads are always out of bounds.

Penalties

Recreational players will not be penalized for rule infractions. Other players will keep you honest.
