Total Dominance!
The 2009 disc golf tournament season finished up with sweeping success for the Hungarian representatives of the sport. If there was a disc golf title in Central Europe, we won it!
The main title of the year is of course the overall winner of the Austro-Hungaro tour. It was a year for Hungarian dominance right from the start, after the first couple of tournaments Dylan Cooper had taken a steady lead. While not quite yet Hungarian in a formal sense, he represents Magyarorszag in European events with a sense of paprika.

At no stage did it look like any other than a Hungarian would be able to take the title. Dani Hatvani was the only serious challenger, and challenge he would! After missing a few tournaments due to other commitments, it took a poor showing in the Prague tournament to convince Dani to go to one more Austro Hungaro Tour disc golf tournament. His last tournament was the Mudbowl in Wagrain, which he needed to win in order to squeeze past Dylan by one point. Dani managed a fine win in a very tight tournament, going into the final even with both Gunther Kaimberger and Philipp Gould, a rare situation in A-H tournaments as usually a dominant force emerges during regular play. He held his nerve to win by one point in the last couple of holes of the final, holding on for a deserved win, and going to 377 points on the table. This meant Dylan would need to win the last event of the year in Schaftal to win the tour, a task he was unable to perform, finishing a sad 9th place to leave Dani the Austro-Hungaro Tour champion for 2009! Dylan finished second, with the Austrian master Otfried Derschmidt a credible third despite his age.

The situation in the inaugarul Central European League was exactly the opposite, with the same sort of result occuring in the final tournament of the year in Prague. On that occasion it was Dylan getting the much-needed win to just squeeze ahead of Dani, first being the only place that would be able to change the result due to Dani's fine performances in winning the Austrian leg (Buschberg) and the Slovakian leg (Smolenice). Otfried Derschmidt was once again third in this competition, but could have done better had he been able to attend the Prague tournament.

The Austro-Hungaro ranking list reflected the strong performances by the Magyar disc golf crew, topping the list is Dylan, second Dani, and once again in third place Otfried Derschmidt! Looking ahead to the 2010 season, Dani looks well placed to take the lead of the ranking list at the first tournament in Budapest, as he only finished 5th last year on his home course, acquiring 69 points. This means any improvement on that will probably be enough to catapault into 1st place, due to Dylan finishing 2nd and picking up 92 points. This is because the ranking list is always calculated on a 365 day year, so as each tournament is played, points collected last year at that particular tournament disappear and your new results count. Watch this space!

The last, and perhaps the most important disc golf title of the year in Hungary is of course the Dupla Taliban Kupa. This highly coveted trophy was won for a third time by Dylan Hussein, a close relative of the afore-mentioned Dylan, who has converted to Islam and is dedicated to the glory of Allah through disc golf. A new tradition has emerged, irrespective of the results of the tournament the Cup will be decided via a closest-to-the pin on a signature hole, and in addition to having the best score following regular play, Dylan placed his Spike 3m from the basket to claim this title also. And the 72 virgins.
